Re: Week 11: Dark Magician
Hello Everyone as I kick off our 2nd series of Card of the Week. This week Normal Monsters and like the Blue Eyes I want to begin with a true Classic- Dark Magician.
Fun Facts-
1. In the first TV series anime, this card's name is "Dark Wizard".
2. This card's ATK of 2500 established the ATK value of the other Yu-Gi-Oh! series' protagonists' ace cards, which includes "Elemental HERO Neos" from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, "Stardust Dragon" from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, "Number 39: Utopia" from Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL and "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon" from Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V.
All of those monsters have 2000 DEF as well. Even though this card has 2100 DEF, the Bandai version of this card has 2000 DEF.
3. Each artwork of this card (except the Arkana version) has been Summoned by Yugi in the manga.
The "hand on the hat" version (Starter Deck: Yugi) appears in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist - Duel 003, in the panel where Dark Yugi declares an attack on "Koumori Dragon".
"Stands straight" version (LOB/SYE) appears in the 11th Tome (Duelist Volume 4: Dungeon of Doom)
"Stone Tablet" version (SD6/PCY) appears in the 19th Tome (Duelist Volume 12: Magician vs. Magician)
4. "Dark Magician" is currently the only Ace Monster of all the main protagonists that is a Spellcaster-Type, the rest are either Warriors or Dragons.
5. This card had an Xyz counterpart: "Ebon Illusion Magician".
It has also a Match winner Xyz counterpart: "Legendary Magician of Dark".
